Beyond a last name, married couple and Shift Co-Owners Dara and Joe Rodger share quite a bit. From a mutual love for fine foods and mountain towns to matching employment histories in the hospitality industry, both their backgrounds and their visions for the future are evident in every square foot at Shift.

Boulder, Colorado-born Dara and Sedona, Arizona-born Joe met and bonded while working at Boulder, Colorado’s Frasca Food & Wine before relocating to Flagstaff to cement themselves as part of the city’s burgeoning culinary landscape. With Shift, they look to challenge locals and travelers alike to look beyond what they might consider typical “mountain town” food and instead focus on bold flavors, a locally driven menu and artfully composed plates served up amidst a casual, pretension-free ambiance.

DARA RODGER

Shift Co-Owner Dara Rodger has a passion for pastry and a penchant for perfection, and she further developed both while working for some of the most notable names in the industry. A business management graduate of the prestigious University of Denver, Dara boasts an impressive resume thanks to time spent alongside culinary legends such as Bobby Stuckey and Lachlan Mckinnon-Patterson of Frasca Food and Wine (Boulder, CO). She has also worked for guest chefs Daniel Humm of Eleven Madison Park’s (New York, NY) and Marc Vetri from Vetri (Philadelphia, PA). Prior to launching Shift alongside husband Joe, Dara served as the general manager of Flagstaff’s own Tourist Home Urban Market. A onetime Division I swimmer for the University of Denver, Dara spends much of her free time in the water, hiking and hitting the slopes.

Joe Rodger

An Arizona native with nearly two decades of hospitality experience, Shift Co-Owner Joseph Rodger honed his craft alongside some of the industry’s most esteemed names. Following stints at top eateries such as Denver, Colorado’s Lower 48, Napa, California’s Ubuntu and Flagstaff’s own Tinderbox Kitchen and staged under the likes of Michelin Star chefs Jeremy Fox and Aaron London, among others, he and wife Dara chose to set a new standard with Shift. From setting their own rules to creating a space in which they themselves want to spend time, they’ve managed to successfully merge a shared love for the industry with all that their collective talents bring to the table. An avid outdoorsman with two four-legged family members, Joe spends the better part of both his on and-off-hours in the pleasant company of his wife.
